Uguisu Mochi is a classic Japanese sweet traditionally enjoyed as winter begins to give way to spring.Named after the uguisu (Japanese bush warbler), a bird long associated with the arrival of the season, this wagashi has been cherished for generations as a symbol of early spring.
At Furuya Kogane-an, our Uguisu Mochi is made by wrapping smooth koshian (fine red bean paste) in soft, delicately elastic gyuhi mochi. Each piece is finished with a fragrant coating of uguisu kinako—a special kinako made from green soybeans—giving it its distinctive pale green color and gentle, nutty aroma.
Its subtle sweetness and refined texture are meant to be enjoyed slowly, reflecting the quiet anticipation of spring in Japanese culture.
