Spring Higan Special – Botan Mochi (Ohagi)

March 17 marks the beginning of Higan, the traditional Buddhist week around the spring equinox when families remember their ancestors. At our Hatagaya Main Store, we will be offering our special Botan Mochi (Ohagi) — sweet rice dumplings made with Japanese glutinous rice — for a limited time through March 23.


We prepare four varieties:• Smooth sweet red bean paste• Chunky red bean paste• Roasted soybean flour (kinako)• Black sesame


Each variety has its own unique flavor and character, making it a special assortment you can enjoy only at our shop.They are traditionally offered to ancestors during Higan, and afterward enjoyed with family. We invite you to compare the different flavors together.


Please note that on March 20 (the equinox holiday), Botan Mochi will also be available at our Sogo Yokohama store for one day only.


Gently sweet and comforting, these seasonal Botan Mochi are a beloved treat during the spring Higan season. We hope you will take this opportunity to enjoy them.
